What breed of dog looks like a Giant Yorkshire?

Like all animals, there are different types of dogs. There are breeds of dogs that look very similar. For example, there are dog breeds out there that look like a Giant Yorkshire. Some of them could be a Giant Yorkshire or related to that breed, some of them may not be related to that dog breed at all. Every dog breed is different and every individual dog is different. However, some people often wonder what types of dogs look like Giant Yorkshire. Here we will discuss breeds of Yorkies to help answer those questions.

Is the Biewer Terrier a Yorkshire Breed?

The Biewer Terrier is a breed of dog that very easily gets along with other breeds of dog. Fun fact, the word “Biewer” in this instance is pronounced “beaver” so this breed’s name is technically “Beaver Terrier”. They are typically smaller dogs that can be considered lap dogs with colors that are usually creamy white and brown, while also having pointy ears. The Biewer Terrier not only gets along with other breeds of dogs, but they also get along well with people too. This also includes children. They are known to be very playful and an energetic breed too, always playing with other dogs and with their family, too!

However, some people wonder if the Biewer Terrier is a Yorkshire breed. This is because they often do look like a Yorkie. And they also have a different nickname called the “Biewer Yorkie”. Not only that, but these dogs are actually a very rare breed. These breeds came to be with the recessive gene from two Yorkshire Terriers which is known as the “piebald” gene. So yes! A Biewer Terrier is also Yorkie because of the recessive gene seen in other Yorkshire Terriers.

What Are the Different Types of Yorkies?

We discussed that there are different types and breeds of dogs. Of course, there are different subcategories for breeds of dogs too. We discussed already that the Biewer Terrier is a type of Yorkshire breed. But because of this, you may be wondering what other types of Yorkshire breeds are out there. Let us take a look.

The Parti Yorkie is a bit different than the regular Yorkie that people know and love. Not only is this dog friendly with people and other breeds of dogs, but it has different colorings than what is seen with most Yorkies. These breeds of Yorkies are considered to be tri-colored, which means they have three different colors on their coats!

Teacup Yorkies are like regular Yorkies except for one thing that is obviously different: they are smaller than other types of Yorkies. These types of Yorkies don’t really get bigger than about 7 pounds. And they can live for up to 15 years if not longer.

Black Yorkies are just like normal Yorkies but with one difference. They are completely black and don’t have any other colors on their coat besides the color black.

Are All Yorkshire Breeds Yappy?

There are some dog breeds that are just naturally yappy. What this means is that these types of breeds bark a lot and will basically bark at any type of noise they hear. This can be for many different reasons. Sometimes these dogs might legitimately hear a noise and think there actually is an intruder. Other times these dogs might also be trying to look for attention, and breeds like the Yorkshire Terrier are known to do both basically all the time.

But this isn’t necessarily true for some particular breeds of Yorkie, some of these breeds are known to actually be quiet, like the Biewer Yorkie. But other breeds might be loud and yappy. And bear in mind, this is more up to the individual dog on whether or not it is truly yappy. Of course, there are Yorkshire Terriers out there that might be quiet. These dogs are very high-energy breeds, and of course, it makes sense that they might yap and bark a lot and play a lot.

Of course, it is not always great to have these dogs constantly yapping, as some people might not like the noise. We will see if you can train a Yorkie to stop it from yapping so much.

Can You Train a Yorkshire to Be Quiet?

It is a dog’s natural instinct to bark, especially if they feel that there is danger around. This is why early humans domesticated Wolves to be friendly: because it helped alert humans if there was any danger present. Nowadays, this is still very much needed. There are dogs that are used as guard dogs, or used as a line of security to alert their owners of someone’s presence that isn’t supposed to be there.

Of course, you can train a dog not to bark at random things and be so yappy, like the Yorkshire Terrier. You can train these dog breeds by rewarding them to bark at the right things and not to bark at other things. You can’t really train a dog to be completely quiet unless you’re using a shock collar or something of that nature, but that again is considered abusive to the dog. So yes, you can train a Yorkie to be quieter.

But there are also some people who disagree with not letting a dog bark or yap. They argue it is a dog’s natural instinct to bark and that they shouldn’t be forced to stop that type of behavior. But again, it is up to what the owner wants with their dog, as long as it isn’t abused.

Conclusion

We discussed the different types of Yorkshire Terrier breeds. We also discussed what types of Yorkies are considered to be yappy, and we found that the Biewer Yorkie is actually considered to be the quietest type of Yorkie. We also mentioned how to train a Yorkie to be a bit quieter. We hope we answered the questions you may have when it comes to the different types of Yorkies and hope we helped you learn something new with this breed of dog!
